Baja California continues to cement its status as a major international tourist destination, drawing thousands of visitors year-round. A recent milestone for the state is the notable arrival of a major cruise ship, heralding a new chapter in its tourism narrative.
Ensenada to Welcome One of the Largest Cruise Ships
Hutchison Ports ECV (Ensenada Cruiseport Village) announced this week that the majestic Ovation of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean vessel known for its grandeur, is set to arrive in Ensenada. This ship is not just anyone’s dream; it’s one of the largest in the world.
Scheduled to dock at Pier 2 of the Ensenada Cruise Terminal on June 2, this visit marks a historic moment for the port, which anticipates significant enhancements to its local tourism infrastructure. The arrival of Ovation of the Seas will be the largest cruise ship ever to berth at this vibrant coastal destination.
Interestingly, the Baja California Ministry of Tourism initially predicted the ship’s arrival for May 28; however, this has since been updated. Such changes highlight the complexities of maritime scheduling and the significant coordination involved in such large scale operations.
The successful arrival of Ovation of the Seas is the culmination of extensive investments in infrastructure led by ECV, including the expansion of Pier 2 and enhancements to the mooring system. These upgrades were achieved through collaborative efforts with Royal Caribbean International, showcasing a strong partnership dedicated to advancing the region’s tourism profile.
When it comes to statistics, Ovation of the Seas is a marvel in itself. Measuring an impressive 348 meters in length, weighing 167,800 tons, and possessing the capacity to accommodate up to 4,900 passengers, its arrival is a landmark achievement for the Port of Ensenada.

This isn’t the first time Royal Caribbean ships have graced the Ensenada port. Previously, vessels like Jewel of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas, and Brilliance of the Seas have also docked here, but none have matched the scale and capacity of Ovation of the Seas.
For those looking to experience the journey firsthand, Royal Caribbean offers a range of voyages aboard this colossal ship, departing from Los Angeles. Destinations include Ensenada, Catalina Island, and Cabo San Lucas in Baja California Sur, with round trips lasting up to six nights. This presents a unique opportunity for travelers to engage with some of the region’s most captivating sights while enjoying the luxury that a premier cruise experience offers.
